BEAT YOUR OWN DRUM......
Written by Pastor Dolapo Adelakun
My father took me to the naming ceremony of his niece. Then I was about 8years old. Around 1971. After the formal ceremony, the reception started in earnest and a team of traditional drummers began to drum the praise of different guests. Another team of drummers came round and sat under a tent. While seated, they began to criticise the team of drummers who were rolling out their own signature. When my father who was overhearing their criticism could not stand it anymore, he said to them...... Go and beat your own drum and stop being critical.
When the first set of drummers finished and they were seated to eat, this other set got up and began to drum. They added so much style to theirs. They even had two lady dancers who got everyone's attention. It was beautiful. People gave them a lot of money.
I learnt a lot of lesson that have stayed with me over the years. Each time I want to critic others, my father's word comes back to me...... GO AND BEAT YOUR OWN DRUM.
When you say someone is not doing something well, do not stay there criticising. Go and do your own.
If those drummers stayed there criticising, they would not have gone back home with so much money.
When you keep criticising what others are doing, you will remain poor. Criticism flattens your will power and attracts leprosy to a man's destiny. You will never be able to do something worthwhile in life because the devil will keep you busy.
A man of God came visiting and he was criticising servants of God saying they should have built hospitals. (This was before Mr Corona Virus came visiting) I remembered my father's statement. I told him politely that nothing stopped him from building a hospital too after all, he is also a servant of God.
My husband related his personal experience concerning the education mandate. He said, he was complaining about the standard of education in the country and one night the Lord told him to get involved in what he was criticising. He told God he did not have the means but God told him, He would make a way. Today, God has fulfilled his promise..... From crèche to University.
Go and beat your own drum. You are likely to do it better. But if you become a professional critic, you will remain poor and stranded in life.
GO AND BEAT YOUR OWN DRUM and stop wasting destiny criticising others. You are likely to do it better. Do not let the devil give you the ministry of the accuser of the brethren.
When you see critics around you, tell them to go and beat their drums...... they will do it BETTER. Take a portion of what you criticise and God will grant you grace to do it better.
It is well with you as you arise to do exploits for the Lord.
